Summer produce, in all its colorful abundance, is spilling out on to the tables at the market. Yellow corn and peaches, red-ripe tomatoes, purple eggplants, blueberries, green beans and zucchini – all the summertime favorites are here. Tucked in amongst them, you’ll also find startling yellow cucumbers, red turnips and other more unusual fare to tickle your fancy. Okra makes its first appearance at the market at Silverbrook’s table. Dan Silva has been busy canning the seasonal bounty, turning it into pickles to enjoy at backyard barbecues and family picnics, and making preserves to keep on hand in the store-cupboard. So come to market with a spirit of adventure and carry a big bag (or buy one of our handsome bags at the market.) Go to the Latest News page on the market website for a list of the delicious variety we’re expecting this Thursday.
This week Nicole Cormier will be at the market signing her books, handing out recipes, and answering your nutrition questions. Nicole is a registered dietician, owner of Delicious Living Nutrition, author of 3 books (including The Everything Healthy College Cookbook) and host of Radio Brunch, a weekly radio show. She is a passionate supporter of local, seasonal and organically-grown food – more about that in coming weeks.
